CASTLE
From historical sources which mention knights living in Logatec in the 13th and 14th century (Arnold von Logatsch in 1307) Valvasor assumed that Logatec Castle Loitsch stood on a hill named Tabor above Gorenji Logatec. The present building (the Castle was mentioned in 1590 as Schloss Logitsch) by the main road through Logatec in the middle of the town was built before 1580 by an administrator Urban Ainkhürn, the lord of the Ljubek and Hošperk Castles. The present structure of the two floored mansion with a rectangular ground floor, corner towers and a wonderful semicircular portal in the Renaissance style was built by Prince Janez Anton Eggenberg.
In 1606 he pledged his seigneury and the Castle to Adam pl. Moscon. The next owner of the castle was Ehrenreich Lamberg and from 1620 it belonged to the Eggenbergs. On 10th January 1717 Prince Janez Sigfried Eggenberg sold the castle to Count Janez Gašper Cobenzl. His son Janez Karel pledged the seigneury two times, in 1747 and 1760, to his wife Marija Terezija, born as Countess Palf, for 100 000 florins. Janez Karel Count von Cobenzl died in 1779 deeply in dept as an Austrian ambassador in the Netherlands. On 13th January 1779 his son Ludvik settled his dept in the amount of 36 000 silver Brabant florins and thus gained the right to the seigneury of Logatec and Jama pri Postojni.
After his death on 22nd February 1809 the seigneury was inherited by his son Filip. When Count Filip Cobenzl died in 1810 the seigneury came down to his heir Mihael Coronini-Cronberg who on 11th October handed it over to his wife Zofija, born as Countess Fagan. On 6th February 1826 Zofija returned the seigneury to her husband on condition that he takes over all debts.
